ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താൻ പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ മൈസൂർ ഭരിച്ച ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭരണാധികാരിയായിരുന്നു ഫത്തേ അലി ഖാൻ ടിപ്പു (ജനനം: നവംബർ 20, 1750 - 4 മെയ് 1799). മൈസൂർ കടുവ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഹൈദർ അലിയുടെയും ഫക്രൂനിസയുടെയും ആദ്യ മകൻ. ഹൈദർ അലിയുടെ (1782) മരണശേഷം (1799) മൈസൂർ ഭരിച്ചു. മിടുക്കനായ ഭരണാധികാരിയും പണ്ഡിതനുമായിരുന്നു ടിപ്പു. ടിപ്പു പുതിയ സാമ്പത്തിക വ്യവസ്ഥയും ഭൂനികുതി സംവിധാനവും ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി ഭരണ പരിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു. സിൽക്ക് വ്യവസായത്തെ പുനരുജ്ജീവിപ്പിക്കാൻ മൈസൂർ വളരെയധികം പരിശ്രമിച്ചു. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സാമ്രാജ്യത്വത്തിനെതിരായ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ടിപ്പു നിരവധി നൂതന യുദ്ധോപകരണങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. 1782-ൽ പിതാവിന്റെ മരണശേഷം, കൃഷ്ണ നദി, പശ്ചിമഘട്ടം, അറബിക്കടൽ എന്നിവയുടെ അതിർത്തിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു വലിയ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഭരണാധികാരിയായി ടിപ്പു മാറി. കന്നഡ, ഹിന്ദുസ്ഥാനി, പേർഷ്യൻ, അറബിക്, ഫ്രഞ്ച് എന്നീ അഞ്ച് വ്യത്യസ്ത ഭാഷകളിൽ പ്രാവീണ്യം നേടിയ ഭരണാധികാരിയായിരുന്നു ടിപ്പു. ഫ്രഞ്ച് സൈന്യവുമായി ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർക്കെതിരായ യുദ്ധത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയ അദ്ദേഹം രണ്ടാം മൈസൂർ യുദ്ധത്തിലുടനീളം സുപ്രധാന
